It's been a long time since I've used this blog for actual, y'know, blogging . . . but the spirit caught me, and I fell down. So.
Kate Mulgrew. Goddammit, she is just incredible. I want to see her in more things. I want to see her in everything. For those of you who haven't been keeping track, after Kate Mulgrew starred in "Star Trek Voyager" as Captain Kathryn Janeway (arguably Star Trek's first mentally ill captain), she went on to be awesome in practically everything else she touched. She was absolutely perfect in "Mercy" as a fiercely enabling alcoholic Irish mother in hot pants opposite "The Wire's" Peter Gerety. She continues to be the best thing about Comedy Central's all-around funny "NTSF:SD:SUV," where she plays Kove, the eyepatch-bedecked operations chief who doesn't let her EXCESSIVELY personal history with lead supercop Trent Hauser (Paul Scheer) undermine her authority.
And apparently she's playing a supporting role in "Orange Is The New Black," a show I haven't seen but which I'll probably have to check out soon--on the con side, it's created by Jenji Kohan, who never managed to decide whether "Weeds" was melodramatic fluff or serious satire, but on the pro side, it stars Taylor Schilling, who anchored "Mercy" and is a phenomenal actress.
But seriously. Kate Mulgrew. Is. The shit. I've recently been thinking about adapting a comic book into a set of TV scripts as a fun project, and I've been imagining Kate Mulgrew when I think about the lead character. Because she's that awesome. Kate Mulgrew, I hope you find this post when you're Googling yourself someday; god knows I've typed your name enough. Please keep doing what you do so well.
KATE MULGREW!!!
